Hear the Mix, Not What You Want to Hear
Most headphones colour the sound. Extra bass here, boosted treble there. The HD 300 PRO doesn't do that. Sennheiser tuned these for a linear response across the full 6 Hz to 25,000 Hz range, which means what you hear is what's actually in the recording. If there's a problem in your mix, you'll catch it. That's the whole point of a monitoring headphone.
The 64 ohm impedance keeps things easy to drive. Plug it into a headphone amp, an audio interface, or a mixer's headphone out and you're good. No need for a dedicated amp just to get reasonable volume. Sensitivity sits at 108 dB, so even modest sources push it loud enough for critical listening.
32 dB of Passive Isolation, No Batteries Required
The closed-back circumaural design wraps around your ears completely and blocks up to 32 dB of ambient noise. That's significant. In a recording studio with a drummer two rooms over, or on location at an event with PA speakers blaring, you still hear your monitor feed clearly. No active noise cancellation, no batteries, no charging. Just physics doing the work.
This also means less bleed into nearby microphones. If you're cueing up tracks in a broadcast booth or monitoring playback during a live recording, the closed design keeps your audio to yourself.
Built for Long Sessions, Not Just Spec Sheets
At 297 grams without the cable, the HD 300 PRO is lighter than most closed-back studio headphones. The ear pads use a plush cushioning that distributes pressure evenly, which matters when you're wearing them for a 6-hour mixing session or a full day of broadcast work. Clamping force is firm enough to stay put if you look down at a console but not so tight that you get a headache by hour three.
The detachable 1.5m cable uses Sennheiser's locking connector, so it won't pull out accidentally. A short coiled section near the headphone end absorbs structure-borne noise, the kind of thump you get when the cable rubs against your jacket. A 1/4" adapter comes in the box for mixer and interface connections.
Max SPL of 123 dB and Less Than 0.1% Distortion
The HD 300 PRO handles serious volume. Max output reaches 123 dB SPL at 1 kHz, which is louder than you'd ever want to monitor at for extended periods, but it gives you headroom for transient peaks. Total harmonic distortion stays below 0.1% at 94 dB, which means even at working levels the sound stays clean and accurate.
Power handling is rated at 500 mW. Combined with the 64 ohm impedance, that gives it a wide operating range across professional and consumer sources. From a Focusrite Scarlett to a Sound Devices field recorder to the headphone jack on a broadcast console, the HD 300 PRO works without complaints.
Features
Flat 6 Hz - 25 kHz Response
Linear frequency response across the full audible range and beyond. You hear what's in the recording, nothing added, nothing taken away.
32 dB Passive Noise Isolation
Closed-back circumaural design blocks up to 32 dB of ambient sound. Works in loud studios, on location, and in broadcast booths without batteries.
64 Ohm, No Amp Needed
Drives easily from any headphone output. Audio interfaces, mixers, field recorders, even a laptop headphone jack gets it loud enough for monitoring.
297 Grams, All-Day Comfort
Lighter than most closed-back studio cans. Plush ear pads distribute pressure evenly for mixing sessions, broadcast shifts, and long recording days.
123 dB Max SPL, <0.1% THD
Handles transient peaks without breaking a sweat. Distortion stays below 0.1% at 94 dB, keeping playback clean at real working levels.
Detachable Cable with Locking Connector
1.5m cable with Sennheiser's system connector won't pull out by accident. Coiled section absorbs structure-borne noise. 1/4" adapter included.
Who Is This For?
Studio Engineer / Mix Engineer
You need a closed-back reference that tells the truth. The HD 300 PRO's flat response lets you make EQ and level decisions you can trust, and the 32 dB isolation means you can work in the same room as the artist without bleed issues. Light enough for a full mix session.
Broadcast / Podcast Producer
On-air monitoring is all about hearing your feed clearly while blocking ambient noise. The closed design keeps audio from leaking into your mic. The detachable cable with locking connector survives the daily wear of a production environment, and the 297g weight doesn't fatigue you during a 4-hour morning show.
Live Sound / Location Recordist
When you're tracking audio at an event or on a film set, ambient noise is your enemy. The HD 300 PRO's passive isolation gives you 32 dB of rejection without the latency or artifacts of active noise cancellation. The coiled cable section absorbs handling noise, and it folds down flat for your gear bag.
