22 Speakers, Three Wireless Pieces, Done

The Q990D is a complete 11.1.4 system out of the box: the main soundbar, two wireless rear surround speakers, and a wireless subwoofer. No running speaker wire along baseboards or under rugs. The bar itself packs 14 drivers including four up-firing units for Dolby Atmos height effects and side-firing channels for surround width. Each rear speaker adds its own up-firing driver for overhead effects from the back of the room. Total driver count: 22.

Combined output hits 656 watts RMS. That's a lot of clean headroom for a soundbar system. During loud, layered sequences where dialogue, music, and effects all compete for attention, the Q990D keeps everything separated and controlled instead of mushing it together. The Q990D decodes Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS:X, DTS-HD Master Audio, and LPCM. Pop in a 4K Blu-ray with a TrueHD Atmos track and you're getting the full, lossless surround experience. Streaming Atmos from Netflix or Disney+? It handles that too through Dolby Digital Plus.

For connections: 1 HDMI In with 4K passthrough, 1 HDMI Out with eARC, and optical. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2 handle wireless streaming. AirPlay 2, Chromecast built-in, Spotify Connect, and Tidal Connect are all on board, so you can throw music at it from any phone, tablet, or laptop without thinking about it. Alexa is built in for voice control, and it works with SmartThings for whole-home integration.

Q-Symphony and Wireless Dolby Atmos: Better with a Samsung TV

If you own a Samsung TV from 2022 or later, Q-Symphony turns the TV's own speakers into part of the surround system. The TV and the soundbar coordinate their output so you get a wider, taller soundstage than the bar alone can produce. It's one of those features that sounds like marketing fluff until you toggle it on and off and hear the difference immediately.

Wireless Dolby Atmos sends the Atmos signal from the TV to the bar over Wi-Fi, so streaming apps that output Atmos content don't need a physical HDMI cable between the TV and the bar.
