22 Speakers, Three Wireless Pieces, Done
The Q990D is a complete 11.1.4 system out of the box: the main soundbar, two wireless rear surround speakers, and a wireless subwoofer. No running speaker wire along baseboards or under rugs. The bar itself packs 14 drivers including four up-firing units for Dolby Atmos height effects and side-firing channels for surround width. Each rear speaker adds its own up-firing driver for overhead effects from the back of the room. Total driver count: 22.
Combined output hits 656 watts RMS. That's a lot of clean headroom for a soundbar system. During loud, layered sequences where dialogue, music, and effects all compete for attention, the Q990D keeps everything separated and controlled instead of mushing it together. You hear the detail in the mix, not just volume.
Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and Every Format Your Streaming Apps Throw at It
The Q990D decodes Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS:X, DTS-HD Master Audio, and LPCM. Pop in a 4K Blu-ray with a TrueHD Atmos track and you're getting the full, lossless surround experience. Streaming Atmos from Netflix or Disney+? It handles that too through Dolby Digital Plus.
For connections: 1 HDMI In with 4K passthrough, 1 HDMI Out with eARC, and optical. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2 handle wireless streaming. AirPlay 2, Chromecast built-in, Spotify Connect, and Tidal Connect are all on board, so you can throw music at it from any phone, tablet, or laptop without thinking about it. Alexa is built in for voice control, and it works with SmartThings for whole-home integration.
Q-Symphony and Wireless Dolby Atmos: Better with a Samsung TV
If you own a Samsung TV from 2022 or later, Q-Symphony turns the TV's own speakers into part of the surround system. The TV and the soundbar coordinate their output so you get a wider, taller soundstage than the bar alone can produce. It's one of those features that sounds like marketing fluff until you toggle it on and off and hear the difference immediately.
Wireless Dolby Atmos sends the Atmos signal from the TV to the bar over Wi-Fi, so streaming apps that output Atmos content don't need a physical HDMI cable between the TV and the bar. Fewer cables, same immersive audio. You still want HDMI for a Blu-ray player or console to get the best possible signal, but for Netflix and Apple TV+, Wi-Fi handles it cleanly.
Room Calibration, Voice Clarity, and Gaming Features That Work
SpaceFit Sound Pro uses microphones built into the bar and subwoofer to analyze your room's shape and surfaces, then adjusts the EQ automatically. Move the system from the living room to the basement and it recalibrates without you touching a setting. The difference between calibrated and uncalibrated sound is bigger than most people expect.
Active Voice Amplifier Pro monitors what's playing in real time and pushes dialogue forward when background noise or a heavy soundtrack starts drowning out the voices. It's genuinely useful for those movies where the score is twice as loud as the talking. Game Mode Pro drops audio latency and auto-detects when a console powers on, keeping directional sound cues from the surround speakers in sync with the action. Night Mode compresses the dynamic range for late sessions so you're not rattling the walls at midnight.

Who Is This For?
Home Theatre Enthusiast
You've been eyeing real surround sound but didn't want the hassle of running wires to a receiver and mounting bookshelf speakers. The Q990D is a complete 11.1.4 system out of the box, all wireless. SpaceFit Sound Pro calibrates itself to your room so you're not fiddling with EQ settings. Pair it with a Samsung TV and Q-Symphony turns the whole setup into one coordinated system where every speaker knows its job.
Movie Night Regular
Dialogue clarity is the number one complaint with flat-panel TV speakers. Active Voice Amplifier Pro on the Q990D fixes that by pushing voices forward in real time when the soundtrack gets heavy. Night Mode keeps dynamics in check for late screenings so you're not waking up the house during action scenes. With Dolby Atmos from 22 speakers, overhead effects actually come from above. Rain, thunder, helicopters, they all land where the director intended.
Gamer with a Big Screen
Game Mode Pro kicks in automatically when your console powers up and drops audio latency so footsteps and gunfire stay synced with what you see on screen. With rear speakers and up-firing drivers running true 11.1.4 surround, positional audio puts sounds in 3D space around you. Between sessions, switch to Spotify Connect or Tidal and the system pulls double duty as a serious music setup.
