23 Speakers Across Three Pieces, All Wireless
The Q990F ships as a complete system: the main bar, two rear surround speakers, and a wireless subwoofer. No running speaker wire across the living room. The bar alone packs 15 drivers, including four up-firing ones for Dolby Atmos height effects and side-firing channels for surround width. Each rear speaker adds 3 drivers with their own up-firing units. That's real 11.1.4-channel sound from a system you can set up in about 10 minutes.
Total output sits at 756 watts RMS. For context, the previous Q990D pushed 656 watts. That extra 100 watts shows up during action sequences and concert footage where everything is loud at once and the system never sounds strained.
The New Subwoofer Is the Real Story
Samsung finally retired the tall, single-driver subwoofer that's been around for years. The Q990F gets a compact cubic design with dual opposing 8-inch drivers and AI nonlinear control. What does that mean in practice? The bass is tighter, goes deeper (down to 32 Hz), and the two drivers cancel out vibrations against each other so the sub doesn't walk across your floor. It's also smaller and easier to hide beside a couch or side table.
Reviewers across the board flagged this as the biggest improvement over the Q990D. The low end has more texture now. You can hear the difference between a kick drum, a cello, and a movie explosion, where the old sub used to treat them all roughly the same.
Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Eclipsa Audio, and Every Format That Matters
The Q990F decodes Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS:X, DTS-HD Master Audio, and LPCM. It's also the first soundbar to support Eclipsa Audio, a new immersive format developed by Samsung, Google, and THX through the Alliance for Open Media. Eclipsa is royalty-free and designed for streaming, though you'll need a 2025 Samsung TV to use it.
Connectivity covers the essentials: 1 HDMI In (4K passthrough), 1 HDMI Out with eARC, optical in, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.3. AirPlay, Chromecast built-in, Spotify Connect, and Tidal Connect are all on board. If you own a Samsung TV from 2022 or later, Q-Symphony fires the TV speakers and soundbar together for a wider stage, and Wireless Dolby Atmos sends the signal over Wi-Fi so you can skip the HDMI cable for streaming apps.
Smart Features That Actually Do Something
SpaceFit Sound Pro uses microphones built into the bar and subwoofer to map your room's acoustics and adjust the EQ automatically. Move the system to a different room and it recalibrates without you touching a setting. Active Voice Amplifier Pro analyzes content in real time and pushes dialogue forward when background noise kicks in, which is genuinely useful for movies where the music drowns out the talking.
Game Mode Pro drops audio latency and auto-detects when a console powers on. Adaptive Sound adjusts the mix based on what's playing. Night Mode compresses dynamics so late-night watching doesn't rattle the walls. The bar works with Alexa, and it's compatible with Google Assistant and SmartThings for whole-home control.

Who Is This For?
Home Theatre Enthusiast
You've been wanting real surround sound but didn't want to deal with wiring rear speakers to a receiver. The Q990F is a complete 11.1.4 system out of the box, everything wireless. The new cubic sub with dual 8-inch drivers handles bass with more control and depth than any soundbar sub we've seen from Samsung. Pair it with a Samsung TV and Q-Symphony turns the whole setup into one coordinated system.
Movie Night Regular
Dialogue clarity is the number one complaint with TV speakers, and the Q990F fixes it with Active Voice Amplifier Pro that pushes voices forward in real time. SpaceFit Sound Pro calibrates itself to your room so the sound hits right no matter where you sit. Night Mode keeps things controlled for late screenings. And with Dolby Atmos from 23 speakers, rain actually sounds like it's falling above you.
Gamer with a Big Screen
Game Mode Pro auto-engages when your console powers up and drops latency so audio and visuals stay in sync. With rear speakers and up-firing drivers, you get positional audio that lets you track footsteps and gunfire in 3D space. Between rounds, switch to Spotify Connect or Tidal and the system doubles as a serious music rig.
