Most outdoor speakers get installed in June and start looking rough by October. The NS-AW194 is designed to stay mounted year-round. The cabinet is weather-resistant against drip water, rain, and UV exposure. The woofer cone is waterproof. The grille is built to shed water rather than trap it.

That matters in Canada. Spring rain in April, humid summers, fall storms, and then months of freeze-thaw cycles. These speakers handle the full rotation. We've had customers running them on covered patios in Montreal through multiple winters without pulling them down. The black finish also holds up better than you'd expect against UV fading.

The NS-AW194 is compact. At 6 by 9.625 by 6.75 inches and 2.9 lbs per speaker, it's not going to dominate a wall. But Yamaha packed a bass-reflex design into that small cabinet, and the result is more low-end than you'd expect from a 4-inch woofer. The frequency response runs 100 Hz to 20 kHz, which covers the full range of music, podcasts, and sports audio.

The 1-inch fluid-cooled balanced dome tweeter keeps the highs clean, and at 85 dB sensitivity, you'll want a decent amplifier or AV receiver to get the most out of them. They're rated at 30 watts nominal, 80 watts max, so don't expect nightclub volume. But for a patio BBQ, background music on the deck, or audio in the garage while you work, they deliver.

Each speaker comes with a mounting bracket and hardware. The bracket angles the speaker slightly downward when mounted above ear level, which is exactly how most people install outdoor speakers, under the roofline or soffit, angled toward the listening area below.

Installation is straightforward. Mount the bracket to the wall with two screws, run your speaker wire, connect to the terminals on the back of the speaker, and clip the speaker onto the bracket. The keyhole mounting system lets you adjust the angle. Total install time is about 15 minutes per speaker, less if you've already run the wire. Indoor mounting works too, for garages, workshops, or utility rooms where you want sound without worrying about dust and moisture.
